Digital Accessibility of Documents

Did you know that public institutions—and soon all organizations, including private companies—are required to provide digital content in a way that is accessible to people with disabilities?

In Poland, the Digital Accessibility Act is in force. It mandates the publication of an accessibility declaration for websites and mobile applications. It also outlines the rules for monitoring digital accessibility and the procedures to follow in case of non-compliance.

  • Is it necessary to ensure digital accessibility of documents?

In Poland, the Act of April 4, 2019 on the digital accessibility of websites and mobile applications of public sector bodies (Digital Accessibility Act) is in force. The Digital Accessibility Act applies to public sector entities.

  • How to ensure digital accessibility of documents?

The criteria for digital content accessibility are defined by the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). WCAG 2.1 is based on four principles: perceivability, operability, understandability, and robustness. These principles can be met by, among other things: text alternatives for non-text content, a logical content structure (headings, lists, etc.), declaration of the correct reading order, and appropriate metadata.

  • Are my documents accessible?

You can check this using document validators, especially for PDF documents. You can find such a validator on our website.
